Hey Limette's!
Milan fashion week is known for elegance, glamour and beauty. Fashion is royalty in Italy and people come from all over the world to see the fashion mecca's elite and cultural celebration. The shows, parties and launches take over the city, making it not only the most exciting time in Milan but also the most lavish.
There are so many shows that we, at Little Lime Dress, could chat about them for hours! So we cut it down and gave you our LLD snapshot; here are our top picks from the Milan runways.
Prada: Imagination and fantasy within a realistic and wearable line describes the Prada show. The colors were Prada’s typical dark neutrals but the silhouettes and fabrics created a light and calm feel. It was the definition of sexy-sport with hints of shimmer and sheen in Bermuda shorts and other youthful styles. Outfits had a playful flirtation while maintaining strict structure. Each outfit held dominance and confidence down the runway. Miuccia Prada took a unique stance on the power woman trend using tailored pieces with feminine blouses and cut out layering pieces. She described the line as appealing to “how life is today”. It was a jaw dropping show from the marble floor to the pillars and chandeliers. My favorite story was the shorts (both daisy duke style and Bermuda) with the embellished blouses and bolero jackets. Everything was beautiful with exquisite details and a versatility that is essential in today’s market. The fun and playful feel while also speaking to practicality can easily justify this line to buyers.
Blumarine: Color, sensuality and lust are the words that come to mind when describing the Blumarine show. The cool beach-like colors blending the pinks, turquoises, blues and oranges and the more subdued tones of brown and white the pieces all had an elegant and refined charisma. The colors, the silhouettes and the mixing and matching of styles is what made Blumarine so unique and relatable. There was a combination of cool, skimpy dresses mixed with a laid back, weekend attire along with classic business chic. The colors played a perfect balance of competing intrigue within each piece; making every item more desirable then the next. Perhaps it's because this is a relatively young line but there is an undeniable exuberance that only this show could achieve; just the right amount of sparkle, pizzazz and elegance.
Bottega Veneta: Neutral colors and creative adjustments to standard silhouettes dominated the Bottega Veneta show. The focus was truly on the simplicity of the clean silhouettes. Tomas Maier made sure he took in the detailing of color, asymmetrical lines and sewing details within every item. Mainly focusing on daywear, there were hints of sexy lustful outfits but the focus was definitely on very pretty and wearable pieces. Mostly showing jackets, suits and dresses the overall feel was very airy with the light colors and chiffon detailing down the runway. He finished each look with what Bottega is known for – their accessories. Beautiful, large and fun pieces rounded out the outfits. The show ended with a memorable close, as gorgeous, flowing gowns in deep hues made their way down the runway. Bravo for Bottega!
Roberto Cavalli: Taking a completely new take on the line, this show gave us eye catching patterns, prints and silhouettes. Known for sexy, over the top prints on tight dresses, Cavalli really approached a whole new feel for this season’s collection. This season a borrowed from the boys, masculine/feminine combination of sexy and simple made up the line. It gave a more commercial feel; with lots of flowers and flowy materials while not relying solely on dresses. It is a much more rounded out line with a variety of silhouettes. The line definitely had a surprise factor, focusing on younger, on-trend pieces. Overall, the show was impressive but we missed the wow dresses Cavalli usually produces!
